What is Wrestling

Wrestling is an ancient, individual combat sport that pits two wrestlers against one another in a match[1]. The objective function of wrestling is to win the match by “pinning” your opponent’s back flatly on the ground[2]. Wrestling was developed by the ancient Greeks as a way to train soldiers in hand-to-hand combat[1], and it has been featured in the Olympic Games since 1896[2].
Wrestling can be divided into several disciplines, such as freestyle, Greco-Roman, judo, sambo, folkstyle, catch, submission, sumo, pehlwani, shuai jiao and others[1]. Freestyle and Greco-Roman are two of the most popular disciplines featured in the Olympic Games[1]. Professional wrestling is also a form of theater that revolves around staged wrestling matches performed in a ring similar to the kind used in boxing[4].
Wrestling is suitable for people of all sizes and genders[3], and it does not require much equipment. It teaches discipline and self-confidence while developing competitive spirit and respect for opponents. It also helps with further education and social interaction. Wrestling pushes athletes to their limits both physically and mentally[5], making it an intense yet fun activity.
